Ex Afghan Whigs Frontman, Greg Dulli and ex Screaming trees frontman Mark Lanegan release their new album as the gutter twins soon. They're currently streaming it for free (until monday) on their myspace - http://www.myspace.com/theguttertwinsIt's quite, quite brilliant. Two of the best voices of the nineties, both criminally underated at the time.

Recommend me some Screaming Trees and Afghan Whigs, please? I was born too late to know about them by the time I became "musically aware."

Erm, the easiest Whigs album is probably 1969. The Best one is 'Black Love' but it takes a few listens and 'Gentleman' is somewhere in between. Anything before Gentleman and they're not quite up to their peak.. I'd also check out the latest 'Twilight Singers record 'Powder Burns'. Here are some youtubes http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FyDCl3Hzdy4 Debonaire, 'Gentleman' http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Pj_YIpkNFww John the Baptist '1969' http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_NiMK783cXY&feature=related The quite frankly fucking awesome 'Honky's Ladder' from 'Black Love'. (rubbish sound quality, needs turned up a lot) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jBSZeKOEnMA Dollar Bill by the screaming trees from the album 'Sweet Oblivion' which is my personal favourite.

screaming trees were one of my favorite bands in junior high. "sweet oblivion" is a great record...pretty much anything by them is really good, actually. never was much for the afghan whigs though.

I think the Whigs are a lot more Love it/hate it than the ST's. Most of my friends didn't like them until they heard 1969 which is a lot easier to listen to than the other albums. Then they started a sort of retrospective liking.
Greg Dulli remains the best front man I've ever seen live, bar none. Absolutely amazing.

I got the Whigs' "Gentlemen" out of the library, and it's not bad. Still waiting on the Screaming Trees though.
